Small but statistically significant increases in resting left ventricle; end-diastolic and stroke volumes, probably related to the increase extracellular volume, have been found on echocardiography: a dire association has been shown to exist between the increase in end diastolic volume at rest and VO2max. Two case reports have been published demonstrating dramatic improvements in cardiac function in hypopituitary patients with severe cardiomyopathy and highlight the importance of GH in cardiac function in adult life. The renal effects of GH replacement include a marked increase in glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow. Filtration fraction and albumin excretion have been shown to be unaffected.
